Stacey Woods, a native of Queens, NY and mother of two teenagers, earned her law degree from St. John’s University. She balanced her studies in the law school’s evening program while working during the day. Some of her experiences included coordinating an art program in a nursing home, serving as a legal assistant at the NYS Attorney General’s Office, and serving as a paralegal for a non-profit for low-income elderly clients. This introduced her to the special needs of the elderly in NYC, building upon Stacey’s college volunteer experience with the Caregiver Respite Program at Sunnyside Community Services, where she visited elderly people suffering from cognitive disabilities to assist family members who were caring for their loved ones full-time.

Stacey remained in the non-profit world for nearly 20 years as a staff attorney at Legal Services NYC. She has trained advocates nationally and throughout NYS on topics such as: defending medical and nursing home debt collection lawsuits, reverse mortgage foreclosure litigation, and the intersection of debt collection and decedent’s estates. She was most recently tasked with developing and staffing the Surrogate’s Court Practice Project at Queens Legal Services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stacey served on the School Leadership Team for her two children’s elementary school in Queens using her advocacy skills on behalf of the students. She has also served as a delegate for the NYC Council’s Participatory Budgeting process to speak for and promote her community’s concerns.

Stacey was appointed to serve as an attorney panelist on the NYS Surrogate Decision Making Committee (SDMC) for many years. She worked as part of a team to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities who were in need of medical care.

Her varied involvement in the issues of the elderly and disabled, low-income families and government entitlements, community education, housing, and many of our City’s legal crises have helped Stacey develop into an attorney who recognizes community needs and has the skills and motivation to solve problems.

Grimaldi Yeung Law Group is pleased to have Stacey Woods now lead our firm’s Estate Administration Department and be part of our elder law team helping our clients and families meet the challenges of successfully aging.
